Theorists and Treatment Frameworks for Speech and Language Therapy:

  • Vygotsky: Focuses on the development of inner language and its processing by a typical learner. His approach also emphasizes the use of the of Proximal Development, which refers to what a child can independently without adult assistance. This method aims to enhance a child’s autonomy and facilitate natural language assimilation. 

  • Bloom & Lahey: These two theorists provide the foundational support for my intervention, which includes semantic categories and the fundamental building blocks of language. Their theory encompasses various language functions such as protesting, expressing emotions, making requests, sharing information, and commenting.

  •  Piaget: Piaget constructivist framework and theoretical methods focus on cognitive development areas, including understanding object functions, means-to-an-end skills, and cause-and-effect relationships.

  • Westby: Carol Westby has developed frameworks that emphasize the critical role of play development and its strong connection to scripts and language acquisition. 

  • Ukrainetz: She highlighted the significance of narratives and their impact on language development, which includes auditory comprehension, responding to various wh- questions, and the use of descriptive vocabulary. 

  • Dr. Stanley Greenspan: Highlights the social and cognitive models of language development, offering an excellent for supporting children with autism.
